A Sunspot
That Caused A Massive Aurora Display in November 2004 |
These are images of sunspots taken with my telescope and
solar filter. The solar filter is a simple piece of aluminized
mylar that fits over the front of the telescope. These sunspots
are common and completely normal abberations although each
spot is many times larger than the entire Earth. Large spots
occasionally rival the size of the planet Jupiter which
itself is about 10 times the diameter of the Earth.
