Jupiter

Jupiter Showing Jovian Equatorial Cloud Belts

Jupiter is a continual favorite for both beginning and experienced amateur astronomers. It is a favorite of first time observers because of its size and brightness. Jupiter is easy to find and easy to observe. The main equatorial cloud belts are always obvious, even in small scopes. The "Great Red or at Least Pinkish Grey Spot" is also a favorite. Experienced observers also like Jupiter becuase its cloud belts are so dynamic. New storms are continuously appearing and disappearing. Jupiter's moons also are fun to watch as they parade around the planet and occasionally cast tiny dark shadows on Jupiter's cloud belts.

Saturn

Saturn and Her Lovely Rings

Saturn is also a favorite because of its beautiful, delicate rings. The first time that you see Saturn, it is hard not to be amazed at the way the rings just float in empty space around the planet. Saturn is not nearly as dynamic as Jupiiter and it is difficult to observe any detail in its clouds, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, Saturn is truly wonderful and unique.
